Boundaries help prevent burnout.png

Who is responsible for setting boundaries at work?

As we continue into this world of working remotely and hybrid work (working remotely some of the time + working from the office some of the time), boundaries are more important than ever.

So, who is responsible for setting boundaries? And, what specifically can be done to set boundaries?

Here’s who and here’s how:

Employees: Communicate your needs to your supervisor, set up a designated workspace at home, establish a work-to-home transition practice, seek support for managing stress, etc.

Leadership: Communicate only during established work hours, model good boundaries by delaying non-emergency responses during non-work hours, take vacations and breaks so employees know it's ok to do the same, have (a lot) conversations about boundaries with the team, etc.

Company: Create a values-based workplace culture where the values aren't only about how to treat the customer/client, but also about how to treat employees, set policies that enable work-life balance, equip leaders with the tools they need to empower their own and their employee's boundaries, etc.

What’s the result?

A less stressed, more productive and creative workplace where employees will want to stay.
